Finalised blog design

RTLogo5
Ok, I think I’ve made the final changes to the new blog design. There’s a new banner and I’ve binned the logo in the sidebar. I also have a custom Twitter background to match.
The banner and “I <3 RT” blog logo were designed by Mark Adamson (www.maaku87.co.uk) so many thanks to him.

There is also a new poll up. I was thinking about starting a newsletter and would like to know if anyone’s interested.
The results from the last poll were: Restaurant-0 votes, call center-0 votes, shop-7 votes, other-1 vote. (What was the other?)

And last but not least. I love hearing from you in the comments, but if you have a retail hell story to share and would like to see it on the blog then get emailing. I can’t guarantee neon lights but you may find yourself with your very own post. You can submit your story using the Contact Me page...or through MySpace...or AIM.

Thanks,
RT

Grand Unveiling

blog cartoon obama 3
Well, it’s not that grand, but very, very different. Welcome to the new Retail Therapy Blog!
I hope you all like it. Any problems, just let me know. I know I should have scheduled any maintenance for the early hours of the morning incase something goes disastrously wrong but I think I have everything covered.

Oh wait! It’s gone 1am already and I’m still awake while my boyfriend gives me a running commentary on the election. Damn you CNN!

Anyway, to point out a few things in particular: if you haven’t been following my Twitter then you can now see my latest three updates down the sidebar. Convenience!
And I’m not-so-secretly quite proud of my little drawing. :D
No doubt there’s still some tinkering to do; a few minor changes here and there, but for now...enjoy!

Retail Therapy now on AIM

aol_aim
Retail Therapy is now on AIM so you can chat to me about anything retail-related in real time, wehey! I’m interested in hearing from you. You can just have a bitch or tell me your own retail hell stories.
This may not be a permanent thing, I’m just giving it a trial run. If you don’t have AIM, I’m sorry, I did try Windows Live but it was a train wreck.
My AIM screen name (and email address) is in the sidebar for you to copy.
Speak to you soon!

ROFLrazzi

If you’re not a follower of icanhascheezburger or ihasahotdog, then a) why?!, and b) you won’t know the makers have introduced a new site called ROFLrazzi, where you can add captions to pictures of celebs and screenshots from films and TV shows.
Funnier than I thought it would be, my favourite so far is this one:
Pasted Graphic
(Stargate SG1 and Atlantis happen to be my most favourite TV shows ever!)

So go and check out ROFLrazzi. This ones definitely going on my blogroll.

Poll Results

So, after 17 votes (I’m really surprised it got that many, lol), just under half of you have worked in retail between 1-5 years. 6-10 years and 11-20 years both got 4 votes each and someone has been working in retail for over 20 years. Christ!

Blogroll

I’ve added quite a few non-retail related websites to my blogroll that might entertain you for a while. I especially like Photoshop Disasters, and Orisinal has some really cute games.
I will also get round to updating the poll....eventually, lol.

Hiatus

Just to let you know I probably won’t be posting anything again until the 6th August. I’m not going anywhere but my boyfriend, who owns the laptop, is. So if you live in Las Vagas or Palm Springs, CA, he’ll be coming to a store near you soon, lol. I’ll still be able to post on Twitter and read and reply to emails but I’ll have to store all my posts up and bombard you with them in a little over 2 weeks time.
See you then!

Twitter

I’v added a little Twitter update link under my blog logo. That’s just where I’ll post little questions or one-sentence annoyances. I can even post updates from work! You don’t have to sign up to read them or even respond because you can do that through the contact form or comments.
Enjoy!

NEW

Welcome to the new home of Retail Therapy!

There might still be a few creases I need to iron out but finally - FREEDOM! There’s some real estate going on the side bar so if you would like your blog/site logo displayed there then just contact me using the contact form and I will get back to you. That’s just a precaution to prevent spam spiders.
You can also use the contact form to submit your retail hell stories. I look forward to hearing from you!

Yours faithfully

The Consumerist

How had I not found this blog before?! Although the title is pretty self-explanitory, this blog is written from the point of view of the consumer, reporting examples of really bad customer service and the things that big companies don’t want you to know. It’s like the other side of the retail hell coin, which is great because I really want to hear about customer’s bad experiences, how they deal with it and whether it’s justified. Some stories are really bad and the customer is totally in the right. So I’m going to add it to the blog roll and follow it for a while. Go and check it out: The Consumerist.

Blogroll

Just a few notes on a few of the things in my blogroll. Since I started this blog (and realised there were so many more people than I thought who liked to bitch about retail), the sites on my blogroll have been a really big help. When life gets me down, I always remind myself that someone somewhere has got it worse than me, and it’s no different for retail. In fact, I’v probably got the good end of the shitty stick when it comes to what I have to deal with. So, however you’ve found this blog, just take the time to check out these sites. Go on, it’s okay to indulge yourself in this type of retail therapy.

Facebook group: “Fuck the customers…” - I will not blame you what-so-ever if you avoid facebook at all costs but this is a pretty good place if you want to read hundreds, and contribute, stories of the rude, the weird and the most utterly stupid. There is always something to read on there.

Retail Hell Underground - Probably the biggest accumulation of everything retail hell on the interweb, from readers stories to mutilated shopping bags and even a definition of what kind of retail slave you are, there is a lot of funny stuff on there. Love it!

Not Always Right - If you’ve ever visited Overheard In New York, it’s kinda like that: just pure, unadulterated conversations between customers and customer service/retail/telesales staff.
